As you can imagine, SEO is a rapidly growing industry. People who are knowledgeable about SEO have good employment prospects. Up to now, most of those working professionally in the field have learned their craft mostly through building and promoting their own websites and blogs. But more and more people are seeking to complement their learning - and increase their employment prospects further - by doing courses that include certification. 
 
SEO is a comparatively young field, and is changing rapidly all the time. Subsequently there has been little agreement about what the industry "best practice" should entail for quite a while now.
